Baqar Palavandishvili is a lawyer with 10 years of experience at MKD Law. His practice spans a wide range of areas, but he is most active in competition law, M&A, taxation, and personal data protection. In 2019 he was named as a Next Generation Lawyer by The Legal 500.
His most recent work has included competition due diligence for Knauf; assisting Philip Morris on all major regulatory aspects for a new product launch; representing a key investor and preparing transaction documents for the planned acquisition of Georgia’s Khobi hydro-power plants; advising, representing, and preparing reporting documents for Marriot International Inc. related to the Georgian element of the Starwood acquisition; representing the interests of Expedia Inc. before Georgia’s Competition Agency; representing a client and preparing documents for the contemplated acquisition of 51% in KMG International; and advising VISA Inc. on data privacy and regulatory matters.
Baqar Palavandishvili holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Caucasus University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Free University. He has studied English law at the University of Chester in the UK and completed a master’s thesis research program in international commercial law at the University of Seville.
Baqar is also the chief legal officer and a board member of Geocase, a Georgian-based think-tank. He has written and contributed to a number of publications, including for such periodicals as Thomson Reuters, LexisNexis, and Data Guidance on matters of competition, personal data, and more.
