Mariam Antia is a Partner at MKD Law, practising corporate law and especially corporate governance and M&A. Ms Antia is also active in the banking, finance and capital markets sectors, focusing on the regulatory aspects of financial services. Her experience covers a wide range of industries and sectors, and stems from working on some of the most complex, high-value cross-border commercial transactions under Georgian jurisdiction.
Ms. Antia’s work has included assisting ResponsAbility Investments AG, one of the world’s leading asset managers, to develop investments in a range of secured transactions in Georgia; advising BNY Mellon as depositary in connection with the GDR listings of various Georgian companies; a leading DFI on a lending facility to a local commercial bank; a major Japanese bank on the adaptability of various banking products to local regulations; Société Générale SA during the first major acquisition deal in the local banking industry and their subsequent exit; NASDAQ OMX with regard to the potential acquisition of shares in the Georgian Stock Exchange and related regulatory aspects; the EBRD on a number of deals, including the BOT arrangement for the construction of Tbilisi International Airport and the first issuance of bonds in Georgian currency; Wizz Air on various aspects of the Georgian regulatory framework and ongoing business operations; Wolt regarding its expansion into the Georgian food-delivery services market; Marriott Hotels International in connection with the corporate law and real estate aspects of various projects in Georgia; a foreign embassy in Georgia on a real estate transaction; and a leading international agriculture company on various aspects of its Georgian operations.
Ms. Antia’s prior professional background also includes leading the legal department of United Airports of Georgia, where her tenure encompassed the construction and opening of Kutaisi International Airport.
Mariam is an alumnus of Tbilisi State University’s Faculty of Law, where she is currently pursuing her postgraduate doctoral studies, and has spent an academic year at the State University of New York under the Freedom Support Act Academic Exchange Scholarship of the US State Department. She holds an LL.M. degree in Corporations from NYU School of Law, and is a member of the Georgian Bar Association.
